In this clip against Wisconsin, we see a Cov. 2 Tampa look.

First of all, Tampa is just a special tag that allows Cov. 2 to essentially turn into Cov. 3, allowing the defense to TRY and cover the empty zone in a regular Cov. 2 look.

I capitalized TRY because they are trying to cover the big, gaping, vacated zone split between the safeties… with their… MIKE LINEBACKER. Notice at the start, the Mike will always open to #3 (#3 in this clip is the TE catching the ball) and if #3 continues vertical, it is the MLB’s job to do his best and cover him!
